You can imagine, among the many requests for prayers, the greatest is for the sick. The sick person may be young or old. They may be just entering into the stages of a new found illness or in the throes of death, and any serious illness beckons for the help of God through the priest. This is by no accident that the priest plays a special role of intercessor for the sick, for he can bring the graces of the sacraments, which will raise them up.

Anyone in need of this Sacrament is asked to call the Parish Office at 724-863-9550 about setting up a visit. The sacrament is also available during Confession hour and after each Mass per request. In addition, at various times throughout the year, our Parish celebrates an Anointing Mass, encouraging those who carry the cross in the form of physical, mental or spiritual illness. The Anointing strengthens the individual to persevere in their journey through such trial.

“If there are sick among you, send for the priest. Let him pray over the sick them, and anoint them with the Holy Oil in the name of the Lord.”

Like all the sacraments, the Anointing of the Sick is a liturgical and communal celebration, whether it takes place in the family home, a hospital or church, for a single sick person or a whole group of sick persons. It is very fitting to celebrate it within the Eucharist, the memorial of the Lord’s Passover. If circumstances suggest it, the celebration of the sacrament can be preceded by the sacrament of Penance.
